Microsoft offers Windows 10 with two versions: Home or Professional. It’s simple to understand what these terms mean on a conceptual level. Pro is for people who use it at work. Home is for personal machines. But what is the true difference? Let’s take a closer look at Windows 10 Home as compared to Windows 10 Pro.

When deciding between windows 10 home vs windows 10 pro, it is important to consider your specific needs. Windows 10 Home for home users will meet all your computing requirements. Windows 10 Pro is the best choice for complex features like a network domain, or the ability to manage group policies on multiple computers (such as small offices).

Windows 10 Home will suffice for your operating system if your network requirements are simpler or you only use one computer. If you are tight on budget, the cheaper price may be an advantage. Microsoft will charge you to upgrade if you decide you need more advanced features.

Features: Windows 10 Pro Has More Features

    Windows 10 Home

    • Remote desktop support requires an app from a third party.
    • Creating a virtual desktop requires a third-party app.
    • Windows Store available for home usage
    • Windows Update provides updates.

    Windows 10 Pro

    • Remote desktop.
    • Client Hyper-V.
    • Group policy management.
    • Azure Active Directory allows for enterprise state roaming.
    • Assigned Access.
    • Dynamic Provisioning
    • Windows Update for Business
    • Configuration for a shared computer.

Windows 10 Pro is more valuable than Windows Home. This is why it costs more. Windows 10 Home has limitations that Windows 10 Pro can’t. This operating system is nearly identical.

Now the question is: what additional features do you require from the Pro version?

Security: Windows 10 Pro Comes With Additional Security Features

    Windows 10 Home

    • To encrypt, you will need to purchase a third-party app.
    • Windows Defender Antivirus.
    • Windows Hello.

    Windows 10 Pro

    • Built-in encryption (BitLocker), and management.
    • Windows Defender Antivirus.
    • Windows Hello.
    • Windows Information Protection

Windows 10 Pro offers Bitlocker, a Microsoft encryption program, in addition to user account management. It can be used to secure removable media, such as thumb drives, or the disk with the OS (for instance the C: drive).

Bitlocker integrates seamlessly with your company’s infrastructure. It allows you to protect your machine from hackers and others.

Windows 10 Home Doesn’t Have Windows Fundamentals

    Windows 10 Home

    • Creating a virtual desktop requires a third-party app.
    • Remote desktop support is available via a third-party app

    Windows 10 Pro

    Domain Join.

    • Azure Active Directory Domain Join.
    • Remote Desktop with central control
    • Client Hyper-V.

Windows Fundamentals covers some features that were present in Windows from the time it was separated into Pro or Home versions.

Management Features: Windows 10 Pro Has Management And Deployment Options

    Windows 10 Home

    • Windows Update provides Windows updates.

    Windows 10 Pro

    • Group policy management.
    • Azure Active Directory allows for enterprise state roaming.
    • Windows Store For Business
    • Assigned Access.
    • Dynamic Provisioning
    • Configuration for a shared computer.
    • Windows Update for Businesses

    Final Verdict

When buying a computer, or purchasing a copy of Windows from a retailer or online, you must choose between Pro and Home.

If you have Windows 10 Pro and later discover that you only require Windows 10 Home, purchase a Home license and activate it on your machine with Pro. This will result in an unutilized Pro license.

Windows 10 Pro will be the right choice if you are planning to use your machine for business purposes, and if the price is an issue. Windows 10 Home is the best option, even if Pro doesn’t have enterprise features.
